Hey kinza, Majority of my backups are main-movie only,AC3 5.1 english only, and edit out the beginning and ending credits. If no compression, about 5 mins to encode. Avg 30 mins for total process time for the 10-20% range. On those larger dvd-9's like Lord of the rings, about 1 hour using max smooth and deep analysis enhancements.

I have done quite a few "B" movies, entire disc and no editing in under 18 mins, but they were around 4100-4200 mbs, very small. All of these are at 4x burn speed.

you think p4 3.2e is enough for me? i read the article ddp linked to and northwood outperformed prescott but prescott is supposed to become the future northwood. should i get a prescott or try to get a northwood processor?

your motherboard might not support newer northwood cpus & probably not prescott at all. so intead get a new board & cpu as long as current ram is ddr if not than newer faster ddr ram

Should I get the 3.2e ghz with 2 mb L2 cache or 3.4e ghz with 1mb L2 cache? I don't want to skimp out on small details and end up returning stuff. Thanks.

there's only a seven dollar difference so it really doesn't matter. does the l2 cache really matter?

    probably not see any difference between a 3.2 2meg cache & a 3.3 1meg cache

Better late than never I suppose :p

I've been eyeing an A64 3700+ with an MSI Neo Platinum mobo but a PC upgrade isn't going to happen any time soon. There's a set of Gibson headers, split rear exhaust, throttle body spacer and an MSD 6A ignition going in my truck before then :)

My specs are in my sig, which does not include my 19 inch Viewsonic monitor and Bose speakers (I like sound). Comp is not exactly screamin but it does the job. Lately been looking longingly at a Dell 8700, but something else always comes up, like a new car.
