Modchips have nothing to do with burning games, but a good one to get is the Magic 3.1(I sell them). If you want to copy dvd-r games then you need a dvd burner.

Look there is a way to copy DVD games to CD.
You will need a ripkit (there is one for every game). The ripkits are available mostly for older games.
You can find your ripkits on the internet (don't know the sites by head).
It will cut out all the nice movieparts and other cool stuff.

    I guess so..
What you can do is get this modchip (Messiah or Magic) and start by making copies of PS2 CD-based games with cloneCD.
You can burn these with a regular CD-writer on CD-r and boot them with the chip you buy.
There are nice games on CD too.

Then later if you got the money buy a DVD burner.
The chip can boot the DVD backups because you allready bought the right chip !!

Pretty hard, that's how guys like me make a living, cause we do stuff not everyone can. Wiz, when I said he couldn't, I was referring to full copies, sorry if you wanted to know about rips ding. You can buy a modchip and have one installed from and by me.

    I don't know what version PS2 you've got..
If you want the messiah you need to solder 23 wires.
If you want the magic 3.5 you need to solder only 9 wires if you have a version 5, 6 or 7.

So I don't know your soldering skills but if you know how to solder you can do it yourself.
If you don't know how to solder DON'T !!!

It is possible for you to get either the Messiah and Magic 3 or 3.5 (SCPH 35001 v4).

Now it comes to the soldering skill..

Browse www.modchip.ca 's installation page, you see what you have to do to install chips.

I never did it myself (never even opened the PS2 myself)
    you have to:
    - open the PS2 very very carefully
    - solder the wires at the point (instruction comes with the chip)
    - close the PS2

    Sounds easy but ...
Here are the pictures for soldering.
Search for example Magic 3.5 and version 4 SCPH 35001. The picture with the points to solder will be shown.
