You will need a dvd burner and dvdr media to burn 'most' ps2 games these days, as the majority are now dvd-based games. You can still use your cd burner and cd-r's to burn your cd-based ps2 games though.

To actually get your backup games to boot on your ps2, you will need to mod your system. Either by installing a modchip, using boot discs, or using a hdd.

IS there any programs that I need in order to burn a dvd game. Or Can i use the dvd burner software that came with e dvd burner? (any patching or anything special or just a regular copy/burn) And after burning it i can just simply use the swap magic disks with the flip top lid and it will boot?

-The best program to use for dvd backups would be 'Dvd Decrypter'. It's easy to use and very effective. You can d/l it here for free.
Basically, you read an .iso image file onto your hdd from the original, then you burn the .iso file from hdd to dvd. That's it.

Yes, if you have a fliptop lid installed, you just load the Swap Magic disc, and make the swap.

-The only way you could fit one of those games on cd-r would be it you found a dvdrip somewhere. They are too big to fit on a cd-r and are specifically made for dvd format.

Heheh, hardly. I'd say the mods and Sly take care of that.

Does the DVD Decrypter come with instructions on how to go abouts during the burning process?

Make sure when purchasing your fliptop, you make sure it is compatible with your ps2 version. They make a v4-7 model and a v9-10 model and such. So, be careful of which you buy.

Open Dvd Decrypter, select Mode>iso>read, then read your original onto your hdd, then select Mode>iso>write and burn the .iso by choosing the .mds file. Make sure to burn at slowest speed possible, I do 1x.
Also, the most compatible dvd media to use is dvd-r 4x max discs. Look around for the best brands. Verbatim, HP, Ritek, Fujifilm should be some of the good ones.

ok thanks! that helps. Now...that does the dvd format games. What about cd format games. Can you use a regular burning software that comes with your computer for those? And how do you know if the game is a dvd format or a cd format?

Thanks again. Sorry to bother you. but you're a big help!

right, your computer for dvd decrpyter.
It will say on the dvd disc itself and the box if it is dvd or cd. Also, dvd games have a silver bottom and cd games have a blue bottom.

For cd-based games, you can use your burning software to do a similar method as dvd burning. Read an image onto your computer, and burn the image to cd-r. I use Alcohol 120% for this, but there are many programs that will work, like Nero or Roxio even.

    Cd-r's, I'd basically stick with 700mb.
Dvdr's only come in 4.7gb, unless you look at Dual Layer discs, but you don't need those.

    OK, here goes:
-put original ps2 dvd game into a dvd drive in your computer.
    -open 'Dvd Decrypter'
    -at the top, select Mode>Iso>Read
    -Choose destination
-Click on the little graphic to read it to hdd.
    -When finished, select Mode>Iso>Write
-Make sure you have a blank dvdr in your dvd burner.
-Now, choose the file created to burn (should choose the .mds file, not the .iso file)
-Click on the little graphic to burn it to your dvdr

Try to burn as slow as possible, i do 1x.
SHould take about 45-55minutes, but you'll get a perfect backup. (depending on the quality of your media)

    This should get you going.
