Hey everybody! I was wondering if any of you could tell me what format of DVD does the PS 2 use, DVD-R(-RW), DVD-Ram or DVD+RW?
    Thanks a lot,

I have got it to play DVD+R's (Memorex and Meritline), but not DVD+RW's.

I've been using Traxdata DVD-R without any problems for making PS2 Backups

I have had no success with the several type of DVD+R's. I think it depends on which model of PS2 you have. I have the 30001 model with the V3 motherboard. (10 screws on the bottom)

It does indeed depend upon the model.

I had a SCHP30003 (first units when PS2 was released). it did not read DVD-R or DVD-RW

I sold it and bought a new one (V5 or V6 SCHP30003R) and it plays both DVD-R and DVD-RW

I am having ALOT of problems finding a decent media suitable for DVD-R on PS2, and most media skips.

    I have tried:

Princo DVD-R Skips on PS2, OK on PC
Datasafe G3 DVD-R Skips on PS2, OK on PC
Datasafe DVD-RW Plays perfect on PS2!!!

are these burned games or burned movies because I would like too know if there is a certain type of DVD disk that will and will not play.

I mean like if you use a dvd recorder stand alone burn some tv shows will it play or not in certain ps2's and if it does why won't the ps2 play any dvd that is burned except for data dvd.

    Stick with 8X DVD-R
all model PS2's will play those
and choose a good brand that will not kill your laser like some of the one's listed above like Memorex which are horrible.
Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek G04, Sony
Philips and Maxcell should also be ok.
If you buy Taiyo Yuden then get it from a store that guarantee's that their media is 100% authentic like Supermediastore.com

and i also hope you know that to play burned games you need a modified PS2
It will play burned movies just fine without modification.

I've heard people running DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW on PS2s...but some people even have troubles running 16x DVDs...so i guess its your model or something that decides what you can run...

but if you stick with 8x DVD-Rs they will probably run fine no matter what

    Always use high quality discs!!!

I have a version 7. It plays DVD-R, and DVD+R. Those are the only ones I've tried.

Every time I've had a DVD skip and it wasn't dirty, it was because I recorded it at 6x or 8x. 4x is the perfect speed.

When you convert from avi to dvd, the converters that tend to take longer usually do the job. I used one that converted in 20+ hours and it played fine, then I used one that took 3 hours and it skipped every few seconds. I'm not saying that's how long it takes on your pc, just putting it in perspective.
