Can't help other than web search for an answer since i don't have ps3's ,however my advice is 500gb is far too small, you'll fill it in no time even on a 360 a 1tb is a joke but far better than a 500

My PS3 I use a WD 1TB Scorpio Blue 5400rpm SATA II Notebook HDD w/ 8MB Cache. I have two of them and had no issues with them.
The 500 filled up too fast. Even 1TB like scorpNZ says is not enough these days on other consoles.

Interesting. I use a 160 GB hdd in my JB PS3 and so far had no problems concerning space.

Yea, for my games I use an external USB notebook harddrive, in my oppinion it's way easier to simply connect it to my PC and put the games on it then than FTPing games to an internal harddrive.
