Sometimes my age dictates my attitude.
And... To think I promised myself I wouldn't be like my parents.
Ha! Throw that out the window.

That is so much easier and helpful than say...'I use (blank)'.

aguy1222, I am also new to backing up my blu ray collection. If I find anything out, I will let you know.

I second AnyDVD HD. Aside from AnyDVD and DVDFab I'm not sure there's any other alternatives.

Actually thinking about it there's MakeMKV, which I think is still free. If memory serves me correctly it's Bluray ripping ability won't be free once it's out of beta.

I use both for a few reasons.
It seems DVDFab has some problems with DVD's depending on what version you are using.

    Blu-ray? never had any issues.

First thing I do when I purchase a Blu-ray is to make a backup.

My Platoon 25th anniversary edition came in yesterday. It includes edited out scenes. Pretty gory. Both DVD and Blu-ray disks for $13.00 is a damn good price. Besides it's legal.

Blu-ray far exceeds the DVD version. DTS HD master and widescreen DVD can't touch.

AnyDVD HD will do a rip with no quality loss.

Make MKV is not free anymore. As for other alternatives, there is also VSO Blu-ray Converter Ultimate that can be used along with AnyDVD. It is not a ripper truly speaking but can make but will make excellent quality backups to various formats.

So AnyDVD HD will rip both DVD's and Blu-rays with no quality loss and it will not damage my discs? Is it also able to get around the copy protection? When you use this software does it allow you to save a copy of the rips to your computer instead of making a copy straight to another DVD or Blu-ray disc? The reason I am asking this is I edit videos together on YouTube and I have been trying to find a ripping software that can do the above so can have more options of clips to edit with using my favorite movies and TV shows. Any answers you can give me about if the software you mentioned is capable of doing that would be greatly appreciated!!! :D

AnyDVD HD will rip both DVDs and Blu-rays with no quality loss and will not damage your disks. It also removes the copy protection.

Yes it rips to your hard drive.

Ok so AnyDVD HD will decrypt DVDs and Blu-rays and rip them? When I looked into the description of the software it made it sound like it only decrypted the discs. Which confused me since everyone has been saying it does both. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions!!!! :D

I looked into your suggestion to try Pavtube and just had three questions one is it says it rips but I couldn’t tell if it also decrypts or would I need a whole other software for that? And which Pavtube software would you recommend for what I am trying to do? The last thing was a lot of people are saying ANYDVD HD is the best ripping software since it has no quality loss and will not damage the discs so would you say that the Pavtube does the same and is on par with ANYDVD HD? I am just trying to figure out which of the two softwares works the best. Thanks so much for the suggestion!!! :D
