I've seen heard of and seen many different products that you can use to play burnt ps2 games.

I know there is the swap magic and slide card, and I've heard something about a flip top. I also know about some that solder on but I don't have that ability so that's out of the question.

So the question is, what is the best route? I'm wanting it to be compatible with dvd's and cd's.

Thanks and lets hear a woot for a first time poster.

Great site btw...I originally was using videohelp.com but this forum is better setup in my opinion. Kudos for that!

Have you considered a premod or HD loader?I just got a premod matrix infinity at http://ps2warehouse.com for a gift for another newbie.
The main reason being is the 512Kb Flash Memory. So you can upgrade to keep up with the game protection. OR Hd loader works by letting you install games onto any hardrive that ps2 compatible so you can play games right off the drive.

Fliptops work by making the ps2 think a orginal game is in the system and then let's you swap a backup (thru the top)without the ps2 knowing. All these options work and are good but if you have the money it's definately worth getting a chip.I defiantely go thru ps2warehouse if you choose a modchip or hd loader they got my premod to me in a couple of days!!!:D

This will help you identify what version of PlayStation 2 you have.

Ther version 1, 2 and 3 PlayStation 2 all have 10 screws on the bottom of the unit.

    SCPH30001 v1 = Serial# begins U1 SCPH30001 v2 = Serial# begins U0 SCPH30001 v3 = Serial# begins U1 Date 1A SCPH30001 v3 = Serial# begins U2 Date 0D

The version 4, 5, 6 and 7 PlayStation 2 all have 8 screws on the bottom of the unit. The 4 and 5 also have the electrical warning stamped on the bottom of the PlayStation 2 case.

    SCPH 30001 v4 = Serial# begins with U0 SCPH 30001 v4 = Serial# begins with U1 SCPH 30001 v4 = Serial# begins with U2 SCPH 30001 v4 = Serial# begins with U3 SCPH 30001 v4 = Serial# begins with U4 SCPH 30001 v4 = Serial# begins with U5 SCPH 35001 v4 = GT3 Edition

    There are 3 different motherboards for the SCPH30001R - Version 4, 5 and 6 SCPH30001R v5 or v6 Motherboard SCPH39001 v7

    SCPH50001 v9

The DMS team made a non solder mod(dms4)
    just plug and play.
It's supposed to come out this month i think.
