so i read the sticky and see PIONEER is a reputable brand... what models would you suggest for regular R/W purposes, single-layer or dual-layer?
    thanks!

Wow, someone who reads stickies. I'm glad it could be of use to you :)

I'd reccomend the 111D. It is a great all round drive but will not bookype single layer +r discs to dvd-rom without patched firmware (we can come to that if you decide to buy the drive or if not, just ask me anyway). The 112D is the latest drive, and I have heard good things about that too. The same applied RE bokotyping to dvd-rom though for single layer discs.

    Hi ;-)
Both the 111 series & the later 112 series DVDRW's are excellent value for money.

so yeah I need a new burner and while i thought Pioneer was the best bet, i thinki may be unsure.
any more advice on choosing a single or dual layer DVD writer?

I'm really not sure. The specs seem to match up though.

Zebadee should be able to clarify that :)

However, Pioneer drives are (for the most part) decent regardless.

    Hi ;-)
The difference between the 111 & 112 is h/w (only a couple of components changed). This diference is slight & f/w updates may well compensate.
AFAIK this 1810 is indeed a 112 series drive.
So no problems (in terms of being inferior etc) here.
    Enjoy.
