What the heck are the blank VOB ids at the end of newer movies?

Have you noticed the blank or grey screens when you double click that last VOB id in IfoEdit on some movies? What is that? I've also noticed a couple of times that if you preview the last working VOB id for the movie's ending (the one before the blank one), and drag the bar across you'll reach the end of the movie and another section will start. Then when you drag back to the left for the actual end of the movie it changes to a new VOB id. What's that all about? Is it a way to make the file larger to avoid copying or just some weird copyright protection glitch?

It's ....a... bonus ending scene, 3D Imax type, that's why it's black out mostly.... so eh,... you need 3D glasses to watch that last vob file... ahem..... yup!!!
