I just downloaded the free AVG virus program and now some things are different with my computer. Like in all of my music folders, now I have jpg files for all of the album art, and files called "desktop" and "folder". Also in all of my picture folders I now have a file called "thumbs"

Where did this stuff come from, and how do I get rid of it?

those are just files that were hidden. they've always been there, and now you can see them because the setting was changed.

those are all typically settings that people want on. just search for how to hide folders if you can't stand looking at them.

as for the pictures on your music folders, that's album art that's typically downloaded by Windows Media Player. if you hate it, you can turn it off somewhere in the program's settings.
