Where can I learn about codecs

    Ive been downloading movies for about a month mainly in avi but i want to learn about these there codecs cos im getting bamboozled thers sooooooooo many and really i aint got a clue wot im doing. can anyone reckomend a site where its explaind in a simple understandable way
