Linux is not an operating system by itself -- it is the name of a kernel , the part that runs programs in a computer systems ~~ It is under constant development by an organisation of volunteered programmers and is available free of charge as a source to anyone that need to dress it up for an O/S.

You will find many versions of those , one that is specially advanced is RedHat 7.2 Linux :- http://www.redhat.com/

another one is Mandrake Linus 10 :- http://www.mandrakesoft.com/

another one is Turbo Linux :-http://www.turbolinux.com/

another one is Linspire Linux :-

All those developpers have User's Group ~~ that is the first place you should go to familiarize yourself and learn what is involved in using this kernel. --- Buy a book on Linux and read my friend , it is a challenge you are undertaking !

Any of those Linux shell are over 1400MB -- that is a lot of data to download ; you can get that on Cd at Computer Stores for next to nothing on sale.
