Which codec's playing the video?

Here's my problem. I did a fresh install of windows and now avi files play a little blocky. I've tried uninstalling all the codecs, but the video still plays just like it did.

How can I find which codec is allowing the video to play? I guess I want to find a way to stop the video playing. I've tried Gspot and it says that the file is xVid and codecs are installed...

Or if someone can suggest a way to stop the blocky playback, that would be fine too.

    Thanks for any help!

    Thanks for the reply!

It turns out it was the display drivers for my video card...avis (and everything else) now play fine. Thanks for the pointer!
