new 2500a owner. i have 40 RICOHJPNR01, 25 MCC 01RG20, 10 TDK-GO2, and 10 TYG01. i will be using a pos 1GHz p3 w/ 512mb to burn. bitsetting, dl, and burning over 4x (will try if it gives better quality) don't matter to me. so what do you think will be the best firmware for me? thanks in advance.

Herrie's firmware for the 2500/2510 is the best, imho. I DOS flashed my 2510 with Herrie's firmware and while Windows identifies it as a 2500 (who cares) it allows me to burn good 4x media at 8x without problems. Take a look at the two forums on Herrie's 2500 firmware page. Then follow the link (identified as "this topic") to a page with the firmware links. The CD freaks page even has a detailed discussion on the various 2500/2510 page firmwares and opinions on the best.

    Luck.
