im pretty sure all the ones you buy now are v7 and the mod chip determines whether or not a certain type of dvd can be played in the system

I love it it is a great burner I would say the best there is however that is just my opinion. I'm sure that others would differ

the sony is a good burner because it can burn both formats but I decided not to go with it because in the past sony drives have not been the best also there is no need for me to be able to write both formats since - is read by almost everything out there

but if your looking to buy a burner go with a pionner everything they make is great

Thanks, ill check that burner out.
EDIT: Ok actually there are two things that affect my decision:
    1. Which media type is best for PS2 backups?
    2. Which type works best for DVD Backups in DVD Players?

Ived used verbatim ritek imation princo
the best discs that you can use are verbatim but with that they also cost the most

next were the ritek never had a problem and they are inexpensive so they are my number one choice when buying discs

Imation are next they arent bad but nothing special and not really work the price

and last are princo STAY AWAY FROM PRINCO MEDIA they are absolute garbage. some will say that they work for them but I wouldent take the chance I got a 100 pack and none of them worked dont get these discs _X_X_X_X_X_[small]PS2 v7, DVR-AO5U, Magic 3.1[/small]
