Why don't my recorded DVR-Rs play in another DVD-R player?

I have recorded numerous DVDs using my Panasonic E30 recorder using various branded and unbranded DVD-R blanks. They all play back beautifully on my separate Panasonic DVD player. Why do my DVDs freeze, break up, or stop completely when I give them to my son who tries to play them on any of his Sony, Philips or Pioneer players? Are there different formats within the DVD-R format?

I have a Sony DVP-NS305 stand alone (set top) DVD Player and it plays both DVD-R/RW & DVD+R/RW.

When I burn using my Pioneer a04/104 I have absolutely no problems playing them , neither does my Dad on his Mirror DVD Player.

So in answer to your question , it could well be a compatibility problem.

Hope I've helped in some small way !?; )

Did you burn on DVD-R General (4.7Gb) ?
