I am using DVDx 2.0, and i converted a dvd into avi with it... I clicked on "open dvd root", selected the longest track, and encoded it to divx. My question is, I did NOT use a ripper like smartripper...so what is the point of ripping if u can just do it straight form the dvd using DVDx?

control and quality... with smartripper you can pick and choose chapters, so you don't have to encode credits or certain parts of the movie. Also, if you decided on making svcd's, dvdx 2.0 does not do quality work like tmpgenc...
