The programs I have for the homebrew(there are 2 or 3 of them) seems like they cant handle this extension. Avi they are fine, and sometimes mp4 is fine. Just seem like mkv half the screen is blurred and the audio/videos do not sync.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to a good video player for this type?
    Thanks

To be able to play it you'd first need to find out if mkv is supported, web search will show that, next issue would be codec support the only other thing would be who encoded it with what settings, mediainfo will tell you what the video bitrate & encoding is you'll then have to match what it tells you to what encoding is supported by the wii & it's media player or homebrew player, mkv is usually used for HD content

other option is re-convert the mkv to another format tho personally you'd be better off recoding the original dvd

In regards to mp4 you mention being sometimes fine; again it's most probably due to encoding settings used to make the mp4 originally & possibly audio coding
