For some strange reason, I am paranoid and believe that leaving the WiiConnection 24 standby connection is bad and can potentially harm the Wii. I think one day I read some thing to this effect and that it may brick your Wii, etc. Is this true, or am I wrong and being paranoid? Is leaving the standby connection completely safe??

The only way it would harm is because of the heat generated since in standby mode, the fan doesn't turn on to cool the console. Some say it causes damage and others don't. It's just what you feel comfortable with doing. Never heard about a Wii bricking from being on standby, but I have heard the heat could cause damage to the GPU. I, myself, just leave it off. If there is something worth updating, I'll do it manually.
