    Hi,

How can I tell what firmware version I have on my wiid chip?

I burned the iso to dvd -r and then followed the instruction to update my firmware, but the dvd spins briefly and then the disc read error message appeared. so how can I tell that the wiid firmware was updated successfully?

    Thanks

    Hi mate

Have you got a backup copy of Wario Wares or Rayman.
These only work after the firmware is updated.

    Hope this helps

    @modster

The 2.0 firmware update for the WiiD updated the WiiD Region Free settings. Which means you can play other Region Game Disc.

So if you have a NTSC(U) Wii you can play NTSC(J) or PAL games that are compatible with Region Free Modchips.

Unfortunately at this time WiiD lacks a good GUI for the update processes.

At this time there is no way to tell if the update was applied correctly without playing a Game Disc that is of another Region then your Wii.

If the out of region Game Disc plays then the update was applied correctly. If it doesn't play then either it was not applied correctly or you have some other issue why the backup will not play (Bad media/Region Incompatible etc etc).

The Wario Wares or Rayman will only be helpful to determine if the update was successful if they are from a different Region then your Wii.

Example: (Lets say you have a PAL Wii)

Playing a Wario Ware PAL game disc on a PAL Wii will not be helpful at all to determine if the update was successful. You will need a NTSC(U) Game disc for a PAL Wii to determine if the WiiD has been successfully updated.

Example: (Lets say you have a NTSC(U) Wii)

Playing a Wario Ware NTSC(U) game disc on a NTSC(U) Wii will not be helpful at all to determine if the update was successful. You will need a PAL Game disc for a NTSC(U) Wii to determine if the WiiD has been successfully updated.

The update was a region override update. To make the WiiD Region Free.

Also keep in mind that not all Out of Region disc will be compatible with your Wii. Below is a link to a compatibility chart...

    thanks larrylje!

I got a question for you, can playing a wrong backup game brick my Wii?

Can my Wii be bricked through Wiid?

If you keep your Wii updated to the latest firmware (2.2 is latest as of now) then you will be fine.

If there is an update on a disc it should ask you to run the update. As long as you have the latest firmware then except the update and it will search for what firmware you have installed already and notice you have the most recent update and actually skip the update.

So always keep your Wii updated to the newest firmware so your Wii is not updated with the incorrect region firmware.

    larrylje,

I only see firmware v2.0 for the Wiid. You said 2.2? where can I get version 2.2?

Or you talking about the actual wii firmware? sorry, kinda confuse here. if so, then do I just connect my wii to the internet and let it do the firmware update? right?

Also, what would you recommend me using to burn this iso to DVD -R => nero or cloneCD?

    Thanks

I am talking about the Wii firmware. Go to Wii settings and the update option is in that menu.

The latest firmware is 2.2U(USA), 2.2E(Europe) or 2.2J(Japan) whatever region Wii you have.

You can see what firmware your Wii has by looking at the top right corner when entering the Wii settings menu.

I would burn the Wii game with imgBurn which you can download for free from the link below...

    awesome!

so, if my wii firmware is not 2.2, then all I have to do is hook up the internet and let the wii update the firmware?

so, I have the wiid modchip installed, will that interfere with updating my wii firmware update?

    Thanks

Yes update via Internet to 2.2 firmware and no the WiiD will not interfere with anything.
