Yes I was playing with my mic trying to get it to work (which it doesn't) when I checked the Windows Default Sounds ie. "Asterisk", "Error" etc. when I get a popup telling me my sound files are damaged or corrupt.

The PC does play the Sample files and I do have sound on my videos, so what do I do? Thanks.

did this just start after the last windows update?

Windows cursor patch causing trouble, the Realtek HD Audio Control Panel may not start after you install security update KB925902

    if that was so

WOW! Thanks for that info....yes it was that update that caused the problem. I now have my sounds back. Now I have to play with my mic and see why I don't have playback...always something. lol.
