windows xp copy

    can anybody give me some advice on my copyed win xp
    i got given a copy of xp pro a year ago
    i was on win 98 se
    ive got a 1 gig athlon pc with 250 ram
    but im having loads of problams with my usb hardware
    and my programs keep crashing and not responding
    and some times my cd drives dont read cd/dvd
    i dont mind buying xp brand new if this is a common problem with copy's of win xp
    has anybody else had same problems
    is there much difrence between oem and real version of xp apart from the price

    Looks like you dont have a problem with XP but with the overall setup you have !

    A 1GZ Athlon with 256 Ram is close to the bare minimum for working with DVD's -- you are stretching your luck ! You should invest into a faster processor and an extra stick of Ram. Have a look on the web site of your motherboard manufacturer, you can possibly upgrade that processor and add a bit of ram to it.

    Softwares for DVD burning are heavy on resources --

    Also do a clean install of your Windows XP. -- this often works wonders.

    You didnt say what you had for storage -- if your HD is over 65% full , you can expect some more slowdowns.

    Time for you to invest , my friend !

    yes my hard disks are full up
    and my computers old
    time for an upgrade i supose
