Windows Xp - Need Pc to operate more efficently.

Any Ideas? Looking for easy to use software to speed up things on my PC. thanks

 

the only way to make xp perform better is to upgrade from it.there has only been three new os releases since xp.xp is not supported any more as well.

 

Service Pack 1 - Pentium 2.80ghz 512 RAM. Basically looking for something that will clean up my PC. I know it is a dinosaur, but still wondering what can be done. Little or no money to work with here.

 

emachines is the name on it. Downloaded the file, although it says error when I go throughthe setup. Have tried everything, still the same thing. Maybe i should change PC's lol

For the price of 2gb of memory you could most probably get a decent dual or quad ex-lease,even new computers are dirt cheap

there is however linux OS.this wouldn't require any money

all can be test run direct from a re-writeable cd,however hdd install is far faster,unless it's any puppy version which runs entirely in ram.More found here

you need to upgrade your service pack to 3,it's worth doing,i don't recall having any bug issues,tho creating a backup image wouldn't hurt first

 

is this a pentium d single core by any chance?had the same thing.all i could do was max the ram out,which in my case was 2 gigs and install windows 7.still painfully slow.the money you would spend on ram would buy a used dual core pc.not modern by any means but a whole lot better than you have.hahaha,scorp you bugger beat me to it.lol

 

If you have no money you could always start a crowd fund

edit: upgrading ram will help but will be a waste of time if your hdd is 5400rpm model & yes a 7300rpm makes a massive difference

 

Enigma, since you couldn't install a small program the drive is probably full and fragmented badly because MS defrag hasn't enough room to work.....
Before spending any money on it I would:
1. check the drive for empty space and start UN-installing any old/ not used programs and files to get at least 15 or 20% free space so the defragger will work.
2. Stop all programs, that don't need to run all the time, from starting at boot so as not to use up all of this small amount of ram. Most programmers set their program to start and run at boot even tho it doesn't need to... This will use up the ram and run in the page file which will slow you to a crawl.
