Basically i have a windows XP laptop SP3 all was working the night before as normal, the next morning all seemed ok until i plugged a USB device in and it does not recognize device although the power light is lit for the device. i tried a 2gb flash drive also a usb scanner canonscan FB636u and an external hard drive. the hard drive made a message pop up saying power overload restarted pc and still no usb, i wiped the laptop and just tried the usb stick and nothing.

is my laptop a toaster now?

only using the laptop as scanner does not have drivers above XP

    many thanks

Try disabling or uninstalling the controllers and rebooting with nothing plugged into them.

Under Hub Properties > Power Management > Allow computer to turn off power isn't checked.
PM DDP and ask to take a look at this thread.
