Windows 10 build 9901 has leaked

A newer build of Windows 10, build 9901, has leaked. This build, unlike the one that leaked last week, is much newer and comes with a few new features.

The last official build to be released by Microsoft was 9879 but 9888 leaked and now 9901 is making its way around the web. The updated build has a new 'Getting Started' procedure and the Remind Me app, which was found in older builds, appears to be in this version too.

This build is starting to show a few more of the consumer features that are expected to be announced in January at Microsoft's next Windows 10 event. As more users get their hands on this build and start looking at the features, we will let you know what other gems were found in this build

As with any leaked build, we do not recommend installing it. If you choose to do so, it is at your own risk, and there is no support available from Microsoft.

Windows 10: 9901 shows the new UI design coming together
A new build of Windows 10, 9901, has leaked and with it, we have the best look yet at the new direction Microsoft is taking with the user interface. In this build we can see that the taskbar has been updated, the header bars in modern apps have been refined and throughout the UI, we can see enhancements.

Way back in July, we started talking about the 'distinctive' overhaul that Microsoft had planned for Windows 10 and now we can see that coming together. The taskbar, at least in this build, is darker and the header bars now have more modern looking close, minimize and max button.

There are also some very small updates too, for example, in modern apps, the hamburger button in the top left is now larger and the app icon is no longer present. This makes the UX a bit better and is a small, but welcomed, improvement.

The search bar, that could previously only be turned on with a registry tweak, is now showing up by default and, as we showed previously, is tied into Cortana. Cortana, in this build, is still quite limited and does not appear to be fully functional yet.

Discover Cortana On Windows 10 – Her Hiding Places Revealed!

Cortana is Microsoft’s voice controlled personal assistant. Originally launched on Windows Phone 8.1, Cortana is due to be released across devices with Windows 10.

Presently, you can discover traces of Cortana in the Windows 10 Technical Preview. Beyond that, recent leaks show an early desktop version of Cortana in action. Let’s see where Cortana is hiding out.

    Who Is Cortana?

Microsoft Cortana is a personal assistant similar to Siri and Google Now. The name is derived from the artificial intelligence character in the Halo video game series. In the game, Cortana dies.

Windows 10: Cortana gets refined, adds "Hey Cortana" feature

A couple weeks ago, we got an early look at Cortana in Windows 10 and thanks to the new leak of Windows 10 build 9901, we have a lot more to share about the new feature.

As you can see from the images in this post, in build 9901, Cortana is much more refined in her appearance and she appears to be more responsive on our install. More so, we can also dig into the settings of the feature and gain a better understanding of where the feature is headed.

or starters, the "Hey Cortana" feature that allows you to use the assistant without manually triggering the application, will be coming to the desktop. By simply saying "Hey Cortana", this triggers the feature and allows you to interact with the personal digital assistant and use all of her features, hands-free.

The feature is turned off by default but as you can see in the image on the right, you can turn it on if you would like.

As you would expect, all of the features from Windows Phone are showing up in the desktop version like notebook, flight tracking and your home and work location features. Compared to what we saw earlier this month, this version of Cortana has come a long way in refinement.

You can check out the gallery below of more images of Cortana and all that she can do, as of right now, in Windows 10.

We are still digging around in build 9901 but if you find anything new, make sure to send us a tip.
