Has anyone done a test, using good media, to determine if writing at 4x produces errors, just because of the speed? My problem is that a 2x costs $2 and a 4x is $5-7. Is the extra speed worth the cost?

Yep, done a couple @ 4X and haven't had any problems so far using Pioneer 4X DVD-R media on Pioneer DVR-105.

Burning 4x using external firewire Pioneer DVR-S502 and Maxell 4x media is just fine.

Still, it's debatable if the additional speed is worth the difference in $$$ for you.

I buy my media in Japan and the 4x media is about $2.50.

I would go with the 2x media if I were you. However, the 2x DVD-RW *is* worth the money. It makes a huge difference when testing your experiments at 2x instead of 1x !!!

    Rgds,
    jnihil.
