first off only burn at half the rated speed of the disc.... if it's a 16x disk then you can burn at 8x or 4x! you should also be aware that what disks your burner can burn....what make and model do you have?

read all about your drive! You should have no problems burning most media! the trick is to find the right media that burns best for your drive and keep using it! why don't you look in this area to find your drive and what others say about your drive in AfterDawn:
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/77
just put in your model # in the search area on top and look what I came up with: http://forums.afterdawn.com/search/.../www.afterdawn.com/;FORID:11&hl=en&lr=lang_en

interesting reading! the more you know about your drive the more you know what you can and can't do!
