X-copy platinum . Unable to read at 99%

Hello,
I was hoping someone could tell me how to solve this problem. I have Platinum with the ripper. I have backed up many many new and old movies without a problem. Now old or new I get an error reding sectors, unable to read dvd at 99% of the way through the read. This just started. I reflashed the firmware and reinstalled xcopy but It has not helped. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Last two tries were Anchorman and Titanic.

 

maybe its that evil chip going around that can only be destroyed by microwaves.

This is not a chip trick. Little pun here.

But since Windows just loves to kick out DMA and switch to PIO, even though it still might say DMA in your Secondary Channel, remove your Secondary IDE, not channel, from device manager and reboot and when it finds your opticals again, it will reset itself once more.

I need that in English man . Your saying take something out of my device manager and reboot. Just a note- this all went south after I started hooking up my camcorder to the pc via firewire.

 

OK... Try this first before Uninstalling Controllers.

Highlight "My computer" and right click
Select Properties
Select Hardware
Select Device Manager
Find and double click on IDE ATA Controllers
Hightlight Secondary IDE Channel
Right click on it and select "Uninstall"

Give it sometime to uninstall. When it's done just reboot. Windows will find your opticals during it's reboot and reinstall them with DMA.

 

Ok , I did that. The new hardware wizard popped up and said " There was a problem installing this hardware . HDC . An error occured during installation of device . Driver is not intended for this platform. .... I'm just guessing , but that wasn't what was supposed to happen right?

 

You are right, that should not of happened. But what it is telling you is that is part of your problem. What windows are you using, what drives do you have?

 

Windows xp. I have an A anc C of course. Then D (Its listed as a CD rom under My Computer , but its my DVD , Thats not right). Then E is my CD rom. (OK) and now an F listed as a DVD (don't know where this one is). I could swear that my cd-rom used to be D and my DVD used to be E , and there was no F. Hope you understand this mess.

 

Just incase remove any media you have in either one of your drives. The DVD burner should be set as master and at the end of your ribbon cable in your PC. Your other drive should be set as a slave and on the second connector on your ribbon cable. There is no reason that windows XP would not recognize either one of these drives unless one has a internal problem or a cable or setting is incorrect.

 

OK thanks. I had a DVD in the drive. Now it re-installed. Now I'll see if it fixed the original problem. I gotta go microwave the dvd then give it a whirl.

Cripes, same thing, 99% done , then error.

 

If you have a DVD-RW media start using it until you get this bug fixed. Also do yourself a favor and stop using Platinum. It is way outdated now. I have it and bought it when it first came out online. Just use DVD Shrink along with DVD Decrypter or better yet, AnyDVD along with DVD Shrink. Since they are free try them first and also use a different DVD to burn. When using DVD Shrink, it will shink the movie to a default setting of 4360 to prevent errors writing to the outer edge of the disk which also might be your problem. Maybe also bad batch of media. Which brand are you using now?

 

I'm getting the error reading the original movie. I can't even get to the blank media.
