I have a phat Xbox 360 which was modded and was working perfectly fine.

One day I decided to apply a system update to the Xbox from the website . I applied the update and followed the instructions but after the update when I put in a game to play, the dashboard gave me a "Play DVD" option so I thought that the system update had reflashed the xbox back to stock firmware.

So I took it to a guy to get it flashed and he said he'll load LT+ 3.0 in it but first in order to check it, he put an original game (not a backup) into the X360 and he still got the "Play DVD" option. He then tried changing the drive but that didn't work either, so he told me that there is a problem with the motherboard (since original games are not working) and that the Xbox is useless now.

He says he can get the motherboard changed but he does not guarantee success. What should I do?

Definitely get another modder, this one seems to know shit of what he's doing. When you switch the DVD drives you got a key missmatch, so there won't be any other reaction than getting a "Play DVD". It's either the laser of your drive going bad or a key missmatch due to the upgrading, but I guess it's the first. Go to another modder and let him build in a new laser (or do it yourself, it's pretty easy). The motherboard is perfectly fine, or your console wouldn't boot up at all.

What would I do in case of a key mismatch?

We think it's the laser. You can easily fix it yourself for ten bucks or less.

If there is a key mismatch:
The key in the drive and the key in the motherboard have to be the same. If they are not, then you'd have to (or have someone else) perform the 1st part of the RGH hack (or JTAG hack), in order to read the motherboard's key with Xell, then manually spoof that key to your drive (making them match). If you go through all of that, you might as well get a full RGH hack done, since you only want offline play (judging from your other thread).

    Thanks for the replies :)

Any reason you believe it to be a problem with the laser and not the key mismatch?

You mentioned 2 hacks: JTAG and RGH. So do I get any one of them done or both of them? The modder has already sent my X360 to get JTAGGED so should I stop him?

Still laughing at his attempt to change the drives and thinking that the Xbox would start working. He was citing an example in which a person updated his xbox and it got reflashed to stock, and he said that changing the drive solved the problem.

We think it's the laser because getting a key missmatch without flashing the drive is nearly impossible. The key doesn't erase itself, maybe only if the drive was spoofed, but then you'd get another error code.
As I stated above, the modder is an idiot. You can only JTAG a console when it's on or below kernel 7xxx (meaning dashboard version 20 7XXX) and it was produeced before June 16, 2009 and has not been sent in to Microsoft after May 2009. With newer boxes or boxes on higher dashboard versions all you can do is RGH (reset glitch hack). But getting that done just for grabbing a lost key is more than just a little over the top. For the price of the hardware alone you can get a used working box.

My Xbox is a Final Fantasy XIII Edition (2010 I guess) so it's not Jtaggable, right? So if the error is due to a key mismatch and not due to the laser, I'm screwed right? Is there any way to be dead sure that this problem is due to the laser and not due to a key mismatch caused by upgrading as you said in post #2?

Do you have anything to say about the example the modder cited? If it DOES turn out to be the laser, what would you suggest? A new laser?

did you ever do anything to the drive with jungleflasher? And if it is the laser find a well known modding store in your country and get them to replace the laser for you

No I didn't do anything to the drive. Should I try inserting a movie disc to check the laser?

I just called him and he said switched my drive with an "already flashed drive" and that it should've worked?

That modder is a total idiot. He couldn't retrieve the key because you got a LiteOn drive, and with updating it and flashing back to stock it turned into a 0225 drive, you need a new method for getting the key (PMT being the easiest, I guess), just be lucky he didn't try doing some cuts needed for some of the methods, he would've screwed it up totally. And his cited example: He either was fooled by someone (which isn't too hard with this guy, I guess) or he is simply lying. There is no way this could've worked, because the console and the drive are "married", both share an unique key, if that key doesn't match it doesn't work.
Just get a new laser, switching lasers in a lite-on drive is pretty easy, take it apart and then it's only two or three screws, that hold the laser in place. Just make sure you get a laser from a trustworthy source, some they sell at ebay are low quality and already defective. Or get it done by a trustworthy shop.

You're saying it's a 0225 drive but here's what the Jungleflasher tutorial says

So my X360 is now Stock 02510 or is a 0225 drive like you said?

It's just so difficult to find pro modders who knows stuff like you guys in my city. Most are either idiots like this one or frauds and cons who'd rip apart your X360 and sell it's parts or something

I must admit, I got that number off google, googled it again and yes, it is indeed 02510.
I just posted here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f...enq_drive_with_my_lite_on_360-934762/#5713934 how I hacked the drives on my last two consoles (both liteons).

Thanks a lot for your help. I wish I could do it myself but I think that's too risky. I don't really want to mess with the circuit and all. I guess I'll just have to wait till I find a professional modder who knows what he's doing.

    Cheers :)

Guys I just found this website which does flashing in India. What do you think of this?

They don't do laser replacements, they only replace the entire drive, I'd ask if the price for drive replacement includes the flashing with LT 3.0, because that's one step. If yes, it's not a bad offer for European standards, but I don't know the normal prices in India.

I contacted them on phone and they DO do laser replacements at a fairly reasonable cost. The prices I can figure out, it's the authenticity I wanted you to see. Do you see anything fishy in the website?

I personally can't, and you have already reached them by phone, which is a good sign. They claim to be in the repairing business since 2004, if that's true they must be good, or they couldn't have kept the shop open for so long.
