This answer I've been searching for and have read conflicting messages.

I have an x3ce chip with an X Add-on adapter. The adapter has little "prongs" that touch the d0 points on the front of the board.

I have soldered the hd and lan wires to the back of the board. Since the chip touches the d0 point on the front of the board do I still need to solder the gray wire to the d0 point on the back of the board?

I appreciate everyone's help and I love this site!

No...the Grey wire is not needed if you have the solderless adapter....
