This is more of a validation than question. I have read many threads on a few forums (llama, maxconsole, afterdawn, etc...) and just want to validate that this will work.

My Hitachi 78fk drive is busted. It has the "grinding" problem and won't read any discs. I have the dvd drive key and am planning on replacing the drive.

I ordered a new Hitachi 78fk and expect it in the next week or so. My plan is as follows:

    1. Extract original firmware from new Hitachi drive
    2. Do a "replace key" from Maximus Toolbox
    3. Flash new .bin (with replaced key) on new Hitachi drive

My other option is to just switch the Hitachi firmware boards. I can do this, but would rather have 2 working firmware boards in case the new one craps out on me.

Can anyone validate that this will work?

You don't even have to dump the new 0078. Just copy your old key and flash it.
