    Hi all,

    the situation is as this:
After months of a softmoded xbox. Mine gave a error 11.
After reading a lot in this forum:
    - Started to softmod again following an older post here. After a few times it gave error 7.
(Well in general tried to boot the hdd and unlock it by softmode as done before)
    - replaced the ide cable, checked connections, still gives error 7.

    Well what do you think?

So you unlocked the HDD? cuz that's what E7 is or the hdd is dead, but that doesn't seem like that, what else have you tried, and so right now it's giving you a E7 all the time and won't boot up correct?

Sounds like you need to lock the hdd since it's a softmod and not a modchip, or time to buy a modchip and fix that problem. lol

Yes, it does show the MS logo and then jump to E 7.
Will look for a post to make the hdd locked again.

What modchip do you refer? A few months searched for those that dont even need a lot of work, is just plug it in.

    yup...
depending on what type of budget your on...
X3=Best chip but most expensive $55
X2.6 Great Chip=about $45 if you get the solderless adapter
DuoX2= $15 but you will have to solder and it has little features...

I prefer Xenium but that's me, and because I never needed a lot of features but the upgrade hdd feature, built in ftp, and multiple banks, along with the led's were good enough for me. Very easy to install, if you get the solderless adapters (which I would suggest cuz $10-25 for an adapter as opposed to 50-150 to repair your xbox and the time is another factor). Soldering isn't that hard but still for me not worth the risk.

The X3 looks like a good chip and I would buy it, if I needed the features. So it's more a personal you need to figure what you need it for and then price limit (if there is one).
