Check out Xbox-scene.com in either the Tools or Software section. I know there is a whole MAC set up they have for download.
For a chip, you should first find out what version your Xbox is.

    Thanks for the reply Rusty,
just a bit confused, i havent purchased the Xbox yet so i assume it will be the latest version.i basically just want to be able to play backup games on cd-r or dvd-r......I'm reading all these threads about flashing chips and dashboards, LOL, life was simpler when i was a kid playing "Pong", heh.
Are all those things needed just to play backup disc's ?
kinda looking for the easy way into this, also being on a mac seems to make for challenging searches ;)
anyhelp would make an eight year old verrrry happy come Christmas !

You will need the Xbox modded to load anything but original Xbox disc's.
The version 1.5 xbox needs extra wires to be soldered for most mod chips to work. The newer X2.3 chips have a way around this extra soldering.
Here's the link to the MAC Tools.
