A friend of mine's computer is acting up. They recently reformatted, and when they tried to update an nvidia graphics card driver, it messed something up by changing some kind of VGA setting. Now when the computer boots, once it shows the windows logo, it just goes to a black screen and nothing happens. The bios is accessible, but some of the settings look wrong, like it reading 400 MHz in stead of 500. Also, they can't boot into safe mode. I know that when VGA mode is enabled it sets the resolution to 640 x 480, so is it possible that a black screen is being shown because the monitor can't display a resolution that small?

Anyone have any ideas what the problem might be or how to repair it?

    Thanks
