I did the AC3 thing to no avail. I've just unplugged the subwoofer from the sound card and put my 2 old speakers in and they work fine.
I'll give it a shot. Thanks. The speakers were Median ones from Aldi in the UK. Obviously not great quality but they should work. I've checked...
