That's why it's heaps quieter .. the dust makes them loud, plus they speed up quicker coz the unit is heating up faster coz it's full of dust :)

Whoah! Sounds like there are LOTS of reasons for YLOD, and not always requiring a reflow fix! As snotewood007 says .. probably only worth...
Mine lived it's life on it's side (standing up) and YLOD .. but never had fan go above stage 2 in that time too .. Funny if they were ALL...
Just to throw it into the mix, my fan NEVER got to stage 4 on the fat PS3, yet it still YLOD'd

I doubt you can say it lasted longer because of the maintenance being done on the unit. Mine lasted about 3-4 years with no maintenance at all ......
Yep .. get rid of it while it's working as it sounds like a temporary fix sadly. I did the same .. have had the PS3 slim with a 320GB hdd in it...

Have you put everything back on as it should be. You don't have bits left over / lost do you :) Mine overheated but I had forgotten to connect...
manugirl, sounds like it is overheating immediately, did you use enough (or too much) heatsink compound on the chips? Thats what I would assume...
