I have a laptop that i removed the screen from because it was badly damaged. Somehow i was able to figure out how to change the display device from my desktop without seeing it, but after a while i started experimenting with RDP and needed to put a password on my account, now it doesnt automatiacally log me in. I accidentally booted without my monitor plugged in, so it defaulted to the internal display.

Is there a way to get windows to totally ignore the internal display and instead use the external display automatically? the windows hotkeys dont work to swap displays, i have access to the bios, and i can plug the hdd into another pc via USB if there are any boot files i can modify.

1 of the keyboard buttons changes from internal monitor to external monitor. is it a 2840 or 2480 model as 2840 not listed?

Sorry I forgot to mention that the short cut key does not work, and yes, it is 2480, not 2840. I have managed to log in with my iPod via RDP, could it be as simple as disabling the internal display driver?

Edit: YES! Switched the display by taking the password off, logging in without using RDP on iPod (wouldn't let me access display settings) and right clicked the corner of the desktop, pressed down arrow 6 times to get to the intel graphics options, and pressed enter 3 times to swap to the external monitor! (don't ask how I first figured it out) :D

now that I got it back on my monitor, is there a way I can make my pc automatically recognize and switch to the external display when I plug it in?

check in the bios as some laptops have a setting for screen types as in internal, external & auto, select auto.
