Do you mean .ASF? You can easily convert from .asf to wav or mp3 with [bold]dBpowerAMP (dMC)[/bold].

ASX files are redirector metafiles for Windows Media streams. Small text files with a .asx extension that contain information about streams to be played and the actual stream URL(S). A type of playlist. If the ASX file is on your computer, the file can be opened with a text editor like notepad to find the stream URL(S).

To download such streams you need streaming media recording software.

These Windows Media streams will be saved as .asf or .wma files.

To convert the downloaded Windows media files to MP3 format.

    dBpowerAMP Music Converter (Free).

dBpowerAMP Music Converter Release 11 (Free but MP3 encoder has a limited trial period before license purchase).

dBpowerAMP Music Converter Release 10 (Free previous version with unlimited MP3 conversion).

Windows Media Audio codecs needed for conversion.

Like Veblin said .asx files are pointers to other files (typicly .ASF files). Why you would have a CDs of them I have no idea. Maybe they point to files on your discs?

They are usually just a zip file with 1000+ ASX redirectors for Windows Media streams or RAM redirectors for Real Media streams to stream 1000+ CD's. Though they are not streamed CD quality.

    Found with this search.
    http://www.google.com/search?q="parent+directory"+1000cds

    http://www.student.kuleuven.ac.be/~m0220196/1000CDS.zip
    http://users.pandora.be/sven.vanwetswinkel/1000cds.zip

None of the redirectors in the files above work.
I have previuosly seen files like these that have 1000+ ASX and RAM redirectors. The files have to be redone quite often as the streams the redirectors point to are removed or moved on the Internet.

Here is a link to the 1000CD's zip file that I have repaired. I got stream URL addresses to most of the streams working anyway. A lot of good music to stream with this but the sound quality is not too great at 32Kbps.
