Yes, it was at auto. I tried it again and it rebooted within 15 seconds of the CPU stress test. Right now its at 3.16 GHz with 2GB RAM (Im gonna add in the 2 more later) at 5 minutes of Prime95 (100% constant) at 55C max so far. I am typing this while the CPU is stress testing. What is a danger level for the temperature and what do you suggest is a better fan for around $30, possibly from http://www.tigerdirect.com or http://www.newegg.com or any other websites that ship to the US.
I would consider hot to be around 70C. 60C is where is should start to max out... If you could expand your budget you could get a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme - the best air cooler out there.
I came back after my shower at it was at 61C. Still stress testing though. As for the fan you sent me, does that need to be paired with a 120mm case fan to work well? How are these, they are more in my budget. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835887002 and this one which looks the exact same but is $10 more http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835887011 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233001 This looks weird but seems to have excellent reviews http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103026 If my fan isn't going to cause any problems past the 3.16 GHz overclock, then I'll just keep it. The speed on my current fan was at highest 4500rpm. When I dropped it to lowest 2500rpm the cpu temp shot up to 68c within 2 minutes I know you probably aren't used to seeing these temps since your Q6600 is water cooled. lol. Thats bothering me, lol.
I have never actully known anyone with those CPU coolers. The Thermalright works with or without a fan, but most people slip a 120mm one on there to maximize cooling capabilities. The load temps only get to 60C when my Q6600 is at 4Ghz... So yeah a bit new for me.
Is my CPU at a danger level at those temps? Since maxing out a Q6600 at 100% constant for about 45 minutes is unrealistic in normal computing. Mostly it'll be running downclocked to whatever stepspeed puts it to.
When the processor temp passes the threshold of 70-70C, isn't the computer supposed to automatically shutdown? If not is there a setting in the BIOS that would allow me to control that? I know my old Mach Speed + Celeron D 340 mobo/processor combo had that option.
