I dont think we need another popularity contest. Afterdawn has always been a great resource, karma system or not. We're fairly free of morons, in my humble opinion. The mods do a good job too.

I read in another thread about how all the AD_Addicts were getting fed up because spammers were getting ranked so high so easily, and someone suggested that Mods control the final level of posting glory, something like a "super AfterDawn addict". The mods would hand out this level to whom they found worthy. I don't think we should have a karma system like this because it still can be abused, just like the title system can. The AD community has been very tight knit in the past, and we should remain dedicated to creating this kind of friendly, helpful resource. The mods know us better than anyone, so they should be the ones to recognize us individually. Just my opinion, I've only been here since last August, but AfterDawn has been the best resource I've ever stumbled upon. And the people are the best.
    Cheers.

A karma system depends on the members to function well. There are always going to be those that are juvenile in their attitudes and have seen some take advantage of it. One such forum I go to uses this sort of method and had to ban a member for 500 negetive thumbs down in less than a 1/2 hour.

Still, for the regular members, it works well. You find those that are "worthy" are rated as such by members at large for their contributions. Over the long haul, it is a good indication for new members on who to listen to when it comes to advice when used properly.

AD has many good resources in their members. I've seen a lot of good advice handed out over time and find that occasionally I come here for learning what I should know. While I'm not extremely active for the length of time this account has been open, still I value the nick for it's length of time on this site.

Good posts and good advice are at times hard to come by. Having a forum that specializes in helping out, helps everyone and not just the member asking questions.

In the end, I do hope that the karma system is put into effect here. Once the kids are weeded out and the regular members can contribute it should at to the value of the site.

i have the Karma: system: on my site and will not use it.
as it went over as a lead balloon, was told it sucked.by all..

    as below
    THIS ALL DID NOT LIKE
The karma feature of your forum allows other members to give each other ratings which are displayed in their mini profiles.

    THIS I LIKE,
The warning feature of your forum allows you to display a warning bar representing a member's behaviour. This setting controls who will see this warning bar.

Choose how you would like the warning bar to display in a member's profile.

Rather than a "karma system" that anyone can provide input for, it seems to me that a system where only mods could input + or - (depending on the individual's history, quality of posting, etc) would be more appropriate (if such a thing were to ever be considered).

This has been discussed over and over the 1yr i have been here soo far :)

I keep thinking of some good points about the system and some not so.

And just goin through this thread i have come to the conclusion of gettin rid of the nebie or post cout sys or karma sys and just have the names on the side as we doo and then just give us to put a pic there if we want instead of having it at the bottom in our sig box.
