OK so perhaps this question has been asked before, maybe many times before. If it has, my search of these forums yeilded little to no results. Nevertehless here it is: I have some music videos that were aquired through legal means and they are in an m2v file format. There is a certain program I want to use to view these music videos but this program does not support the m2v file format. How can I convert these files to the avi file format? I've read a couple of things like how m2v is an mpeg-2 video only file. But I can assure you that I have both video & audio during playback of said m2v files. I also read that you can change the extension (from m2v to mpeg or mpg and that should work. I've even read that all I need is the right codec for playback - if so which one? Can anybody set me straight on this issue...thanks a bunch!
Some free programs, virtualdubmod can open mpeg2, might not handle the audio properly, but you can easily fix that. Or install avisynth and use the regular virtualdub (it's newer than the virtualdubmod version). Then in your avs script, open the mpg with a one-line script: DirectShowSource("c:\my.mpg"). Then open the avs script in virtualdub.
