hi, all anyway i have a Toshiba A60 S1951 which i don't use much (last time i used was last week) because of the 256mb ram, so i though i would upgrade the ram with an extra 512. So i put the ram in and i went to switch it on and i got a black screen (backlight comes on) with greyish horizontal lines across it. Not sure if the ram caused it or not. When connected to external monitor it works fine with the new ram as well. I tried taking the ram out, same problem I tried taking the connecting wire out the mobo and putting it back in still no fix. What do you think? Could it be the cable? The LCD? The graphics card? Not sure, i am really stuck. Thanks for all the help
It has to be the LCD or inverter since it works with an external monitor. Try to rehook up the LCD inverter.
hey thanks for the reply, but i have taken in wire in and out of the motherboard, however i have never opened the lcd up, i have see what the invertor looks like (on internet), is it just attached with tape, is there any particular method to take it in and out? Is there a test i can do to check if it is the invertor. Just some more info a couple of times i have got splashes of colour nothing in detail, a big circular gradient is the best way to describe. Also from yahoo answers a person answered "Its most likely the LCD, but could be video card issues. I know I have seen display curroption that you could call artifacting, and believe it or not it was the system RAM, since alot share it with the onboard video" what do you reckon to this because i did install some ram?? thanks
What that guy said about system/video RAM being shared is true but I don't see why it would work on an external monitor and not the LCD. To reseat the inverter, just take apart the LCD, remove the inverter and place it back in. Also try to load with 1 stick of RAM in Slot A, then Slot B, then Slot C and so on if you have those slots and see if it works. Do that with the original RAM, not the additional RAM.
hey, i wriggled the wire behinnd the LCD and it works perfect now THANK YOU However just for my knowledge how would you take that wire out, because it seemed to me that it was connected to a connector under a sheet of plastic, now i was not sure if i was supposed to pull down to take it out, so i just messed about with it and now it works. Thanks!!!
Usually it just pulls out. It's like a ribbon cable but I wouldn't attempt it since it already works.
