I have a Viewsonic VX924 monitor that has died. The screen is black, but around every 5 second it'll pulse the input image for about 1/4 second. The green power light on the front flashing all the while. I did a little research and was informed that it is a power supply problem, specifically with the electrolytic capacitors. Upon examination I noticed that 3 out of 6 elec. caps on the board were bulged out. I replaced all three but it is still doing the same thing. Has anyone ever come across a problem like this?
If three capacitors went, the circuitry of the monitor may have been damaged, you're best of having it replaced. Is it still covered by Viewsonic's 3 year on-site warranty?
Not sure... the monitor was a freebie cause it wasn't working. It's definately the power card though. I checked the voltage O/P and it pulsates between 12V (expected voltage) and 4V. This explains the monitor blinking on and off. I can order a new power card from Viewsonic for $31.00 but if something else went with it it would be a waste. Not sure what I'm gonna do. You know anywhere I can get cheap used replacement parts for stuff like this?
I've never really looked into it to be honest, I just had my Viewsonic replaced when it went bad. Haven't had an issue with my 30" Dell yet (touches wood) but if I did it would certainly go for warranty, I wouldn't risk taking it apart myself.
I know... It's ridiculous. I can't even find anywhere to get spare parts from. Viewsonic keeps it pretty tight.
Unfortunately this is where they get you, beyond warranty, it's time to shell out for a new product. I've got to try and replace a graphics card that's only 3 months old at the moment, that didn't even have any warranty (which I believe is illegal in the UK)...
Well... I've launched a few posts asking around for some schematics, so we'll see how that plays out.
jools1976, Did you ever manage to fix this problem? Or did you end up scrapping the Moniter? I am in a similar situation. The power flashes on and off, displaying the screen for about 1/4 of a sec. I have no way of knowing whether or not (or which) capacitor may be the problem. Any information on how you solved your problem would be greatly appreciated. -Locke
I am in same boat here V My viewsonic VX 924 is 3years and 3 months old...just outside warranty blinking green LED on start....monitor blinking on and off and need to leave it for more than one hour then it stop blinking. Video cards, software, drivers all fine. Refresh at 60. I think its the monitor it self
thinking of buying the: 22" Iiyama ProLite E2207WS-1, 2ms Widescreen Digital & Multi Media TFT Display. £133 worth. Any views? giving up on Viewsonic Many thanks
I had a Viewsonic monitor, can't remember the model number though. It just would not work on my system one day. Could hear the computer start with sound and all. Tried it on my wife's system with no joy. Only a blank screen both ways. Took the bloody thing into the repair shop and it worked perfectly for the repair guy!! Unless you can fix the thing yourself - it's probably cheaper (and far less stressful) to just buy a new monitor. That's what I did, my new Samsung wide screen is just fine.
