    Hi there Nero fans:

Hope all is well. I am sorry to bother you but in the middle of photo editing for my next book Nero Photo Snap freaked out without reason or warning.

It was perfect on Monday and all of a sudden as of Tuesday regardless of size, quality, or colors any JPEG picture on the computer or on a disc will not open. It seems that it doesn't even show at this point a JPEG being a file it will understand.

What happened please and how do I rectify this?
The computer had no other issues. Spyware/Adware/Anti-virus run daily, very little stored on the computer.

    Everyone have a great Thursday!

    Hi obtiger95:

This should help. It actually was one out of 1 trillion times a tech support email knew what to do and how to explain it! It is strange that it freaks out with no warning. Check choices 1 and 2 first. This worked but it took 2x. Good luck and be well, craig

The functionality of PhotoSnap is implemented in several plugins. Each plugin is a *.dll file in the PhotoSnap directory. If some functionality is missing in PhotoSnap, the most likely cause for this are either defective plugins, missing plugins or a faulty plugin registration. Please check if all required files are present:

    1.
The following plugin files must be found in the PhotoSnap Directory:

    "BasicFilters.dll", "FImgPlg.dll", "PhotoEffects.dll" and "XImgPlg.dll".

After a standard installation of Nero 6, you will find the PhotoSnap directory under the following path:
    "C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero PhotoSnap"
The exact path may vary depending upon the settings when installing Nero 6.
The problems you encounter can occur if one or more files are not available. This can be fixed by reinstalling Nero using the Nero CleanTool. For details please go to step 3.

    2.
If all of these files are present, then please try to register the plugins again. The first step is to launch Nero PhotoSnap. In PhotoSnap please select "Options" (Hammer icon). Then please click on "Plugins....". Now select "unregister all" and confirm with "yes". Then please close both dialog windows. Now select Options again and select "register plugin".
Now choose the plugin files mentioned above. And open each of these files separately.
If the plugins are not displayed, you will find them in the PhotoSnap directory.
Now close and reopen PhotoSnap. The problem should now be solved. If it still occurs, please send us a list of the files in your PhotoSnap directory along with the file version information.

    3.
To solve the problem we suggest that you uninstall all Nero 6 applications from your computer first and proceed by reinstalling Nero 6 completely. Please proceed with the following three steps:

3.1 Find your Nero 6 serial number
3.2 Uninstall all Nero 6 programs using the Nero CleanTool
3.3 Install the latest version of Nero 6

    3.1
For a later reinstallation of Nero 6 it is necessary that you find and note your serial number before uninstalling Nero.

It is structured as follows: 1A2x-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx and is either located on the inside of the Nero jewel case or on the back of the paper sleeve that the Nero CD came in.

You can also get your serial number via Nero StartSmart.
    Launch Nero StartSmart.
To do so, double-click the icon "Nero StartSmart" on your desktop.
If you do not have a shortcut to Nero StartSmart on your desktop, open Nero StartSmart as follows:
Click "Start" in the Windows start menu.
Subsequently click the entries "All Programs"-"Nero 6"-"Nero StartSmart".
    -> Nero StartSmart will open.
Click the "Nero" logo in the upper left corner of the Nero StartSmart window.
-> The Nero ProductCenter will open.
Click the "serial number" tab to see your serial number.
-> Your serial number is displayed in the window on the right.
Please write down your serial number.

Alternatively, you can also find your serial number in the Windows registry.
    Please proceed as follows:
Click "Start" in the Windows start menu.
    Click the "Run" command.
-> The window "Run" will open.
Enter "regedit" in the "Open" text field and click the "OK" button.
-> The registry window will open.
You will find your serial number on the left side in the navigation tree.
    Simply go into the path
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ahead\Nero Burning Rom_Info
    and double-click the "Serial" entry.
-> Your serial number is listed in this location.
Please write down your serial number.

    3.2
Now start uninstalling all Nero 6 applications from your computer using the Nero 6 CleanTool.
    Please proceed as follows:

Download the Nero 6 CleanTool using the following link:
    http://www.nero.com/link.php?topic_id=109&gen_id=8
Save this file to your desktop.
Unzip the ZIP-file with WinZip or WinRAR and save the content to your hard drive.
Double-click on the unzipped EXE-file to start the CleanTool.
-> The window "General Clean Tool" will open. The installed Nero version will be displayed.
Activate the checkboxes in the displayed Nero version.
    Then click the "Clean" button.
-> A status window will open.
The execution of the tool may take several minutes.
Please wait until the progress bar has moved completely to the right.
In the window "Nero General Clean Tool" please click the button "Exit" as soon as the erasing procedure is completed.
    Reboot your computer.
-> The Nero 6 CleanTool has removed all Nero entries from your computer.

    3.3
To install the latest Nero 6 version, please proceed as follows:
(Note: do not install a previous Nero 6 version from an installation CD now, but download and install the latest version of Nero 6 from our website. All Nero 6 download versions have the full range of functions as an original Nero 6 installation CD. There is no need to install a previous version of Nero first.)

Download and install the latest Nero 6 version from our website using the following link:
    http://www.nero.com/eng/downloads-nero6-update.php
Save this file to your desktop.
Double-click the downloaded Nero 6 installation file to start the installation.
Enter your Nero 6 serial number during the installation to make your Nero into a permanent version. (The download without a serial number is a trial version only).
-> You now have a newly installed version of Nero 6 on your computer.
