I am trying to resurrect a previous thread regarding transferring programs from a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 cable box DVR onto a DVD or external hard drive. Is there a way to copy the entire hard drive, without copying program by program? If not, is it possible to copy each movie/program onto a DVD or hard drive without playing it in real time? My cable provider is Cablevision. Thanks for your help.

I have the 8300HD and so far, the only way I've been able to copy the HD is to connect it to your computer via the cable, and use telnet software or linux/unix to copy over the hard drive.. I'm still in the process of finding the answer to this though.,

Dear Stephent. I also have cablevision with a Scientific Atlanta box.

I created a new thread about cablevision.

my problem is that i used to be able to copy the subscribed to ON DEMAND movies onto dvd using a dvd/video recorder, now i guess cablevision has encrypted the movies, so they will not copy. The finished DVD says "dvd cannot be viewed..."etc

    Regular tv stations work.

Do you have any ideas about how i can copy these movies. I like to copy them so I can view at a later time, I do NOT resell or anything like that, just for my own viewing pleasure.

I live in NY, ****** I always used to be able to copy ON DEMAND CABLEVISION movies onto DVDs to watch later on.

I have a New SONY DVD/Video Recorder, works fine recording Regular Cablevision shows.

However, now they have encrypted my paid for On Demand movies.

What do I need to do to be able to copy my paid for Cablevision On Demand movies onto DVDs using my Sony DVD/Video recorder???

    How do I decrypt.

    This SHOULD NOT BE ILLEGAL

Quote:SINCE I PAY FOR A PLATIMUM PLAN THAT INCLUDES ALL OF THE FOLLOWING ON DEMAND CHANNELS...

    HBO
    SHOWTIME
    STARZ
    CINEMAX
    ENCORE
DISNEY......and other premium channels I subscribe to.
