I hope that I am asking this is the right place.

I have a movie that is in letter box, when I play it on my plasma tv with my upconverting dvd player connected via hdmi it plays in letter box form. When I play it on my crt 65inch mitsu. with an upconverting dvd player via component it stretches the picture to full screen, and I cant even adjust it with the screen format button on the remote.

Hope this is not an ignorant question, I thought I had a handle on all of this stuff.

Oh by the way this is a copied movie of one of my back ups.

My plasma is a panasonic vieta th-50px75u, the player that is with that tv is a yamaha dvs5950. The mits is a ws65315 and the player hooked to it via component is an lg dn191h. The mits does not have hdmi.

    Thank you.

Is the misubishi TV 4:3 or widescreen.

Usually in the DVD player there is a setting where you pick the TV
type. If you set it 16:9, the player outputs the whole height of the
picture. If you set it to 4:3, the player squashes the picture
to compensate for the 4:3 aspect ratio. This should give you
some black space top and bottom.

I guess I don't understand the problem. Can you take a shot of the
TV with a digital camera that shows the problem?

What does the player put out over component? 1080i ?

Thank you for your quick responses, but I have figured out the problem. I did not remove the copy protection from my back up there for it would not play correctley over component.

    Thank you
