Cannot play realmedia files (RM, RAM)

Tried everything but cant seem to play realmedia files. Using mpc v. 6.4.9.1 and ffdshow v. 20044.
Some files are streaming from the web and some are on hard drive. Neither will play. It says "cannot render file" or "failed to render file". I tried the following:

1. copying and pasting URL into mpc (file, open, copy+past)
2. options -> player -> format -> checked off real media file and set it from DirectShow to RealMedia.

Do you have RealAlternative installed?

If you cannot get it to work, I would suggest try MPlayer as another option to play Real Media:

Both MPC and MPLayer work for me.

 

Nope its not installed. I thought realmedia files would work without it. I'll install it and see what happens.
