the board won't read a single 1 gig stick of ram but will read 2-512meg sticks for 1gig total. i also told you before not to pm me about this stuff!
i thought u would have the answers .what about flashing the bios so it will read the 1.0gb stick ,pc store said it can be done ?
each slot maxes out at 512meg for a total of 1gig. see if board site has updated bios version newer than yours & see if any mention of memory update. also check motherboard manual & site to confirm memory size as store might be full of bs.
here is what i get from cpu-z how do i know what bios version i have and it wont leave me access >this page http://www.msicomputer.com/
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=80 this is what it says >>>• Supports a maximum memory size up to 2GB http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=80&kind=1 which one do i chose i donr even know what version i have thanks for any help on this
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=80&kind=1 also possible that stick of ram doesn't like your board or vice versa
i found it know which one do i choose ? and which is version is mine i cant seem to find it thanks again .why do factory specs say max 1gb?also could flashing mess up board
look at top left corner or bottom left corner of your screen as computer posts, should give you version &/or date.
one more this is a stock board from compaq are the aftermarket ones different quote>> look at top left corner or bottom left corner of your screen as computer posts, should give you version &/or date. u mean on reboot?
i had same trouble awhile back.. the memm. i bought off ebay didnt match my chipset...make sure them mem is compatible with you chipset or it will only read half of what you have.
Here is your latest BIOS: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software2/COL4423/pv-14739-1/sp23966.exe But I don't think it will help your memory situation! 2 x 512MB = 1GB max; that's it (that's all you can get). You need 2 x 512MB PC3200 (or PC2700 or PC2100). You might as well get PC3200 - but it will run at 133MHz(266DDR) which is PC2100 speed. Seems so...
here is whats in both slots if i flash will it see the 1.0gb if i use the link above for latest bios will it mess anything up ?
could i Flash the bios to a non standard oem board ? can this be done and could someone post the bios for non oem board thanks
