I went to burn backups of 2 of my childrens purchased Halloween Movies for use at the upcoming party as they are not going out trick or treating. And I am not using the original when there will be a group of their friends around. I have not done backups for awhile and so I have some queries that I hope the answers will help solve the problem. My version of 1 Click always has been successful until now, this is version 4.2.9.2 used along with Any Dvd vers 6.0.8.2. Last night when i sat down with my 10 year old to show him how I do them I had problems for the very first time. I burn with my BenQ ext burner 162I and have been since Dec 2005 using BenQ Support recommended R+ media... Sony, Maxell, Imation or TDK. And no coasters. Suddenly last night after I tried my first backup of a new release I purchased for the party I found the burner could Read the disc but kept asking for a (re) writeable dvd. It has never done this before and I tried all of the R+ brands listed above and kept getting the same message and I am trying to teach my son what is involved in doing a backup. So I tried Sony RW+ and Maxell RW+ and the backups successfully burned but were playable Only on the notebook and not on our Toshiba, Sony, or the neighbours Panasonic standalone players. First I wondered if it is b/c I don't have the new version 5 installed and if it is that how do I install it; can I do it over top of the current version I have or do I have to uninstall this version and do another install of the new version separately??? Also, could I have inadvertently changed something on 1 Click so that it is suddenly asking for a (re) writeable disc to be inserted?? I really hope that someone can help as I need to get this project done before the 2 kids party and want to show the older of the 2 how it is done. I don't want the newly released purchased one circulated amongst 10 little hands and ruined. I circulate the backup and also the case describing the movie to them and make them read what is on it and try to teach them to respect the packaging, but I will not use the original dvd. Hi Appa To see if it's the program why not try these movies using Shrink (will burn w/ Nero) & AnyDVD or CloneDVD & AnyDVD. Just my 2 cents but I like those combos better than 1Click. Been ahwile since I used 1Click. Firmware on the BenQ up to date too?
Thx for the reply, I used Shrink and Any Dvd and burned on the regular Maxell r+ media one of BenQ's recommended media and did 2 backups of the 2 different purchased for the kid's party and it worked. Just tried Nero and it did not work. This may sound silly, but I went to find out what version of 1 Click as I was taking the version out of the journal that I keep and I thought that if I clicked on the ...? it would confirm the version but I could not find it. I wanted to make sure my version indeed was what I indicated in my post. Does anyone know where the version number is? BTW, Nero read the dvd but would not burn it and Any Dvd was doing its job??? I don't understand this???
Hmmm I no longer have 1click - uninstalled it awhile ago. Look in the 'help' menu in the program (if there is one) sometimes it's there. Or go the the folder in program files where the install is. Find the icon in he folder for 1Click. Move your mouse over it - the version # will be listed. Or right click on it & go to properties then the version tab. Shrink uses Nero to burn so I wonder why when you tried just Nero what happened. Which movie(s) is this and which option in Nero did you use. Any error message?
Thankyou for the reply, the movies that I was trying to burn were Purchased, I want to assure this forum as the kids have a library as do the adults in this house; the backups were for the 2 Halloween parties that we are having. One was Monster House and the other was Pet Sematary Collector Edition. The version of Nero that I have is the one that came with my BenQ 162I external burner which is 6.6.0.6 "bundled" at least that is what it reads. And since it is an OEM, I can't update it. But Indeed the DVD Shrink did the job where Nero simply would not. I was using Nero Express Vision, and "Copy DVD". I also should say that Any DVD was doing its job as I put the cursor over it. Nero would read the DVD but would not burn it. I would appreciate your comments as it is strange if Shrink uses Nero and it would do the Burn and yet Nero itself wouldn't and you indicate that Shrink uses Nero?? Do I have to go out and buy the full blown version of Nero now???? BTW, the backups as I mentioned are for our home library and so I don't do them on a regular basis and so I don't use the programs on a regular basis and they are on different notebooks. I keep a journal of the steps to follow on DVD Shrink for example. I prefer using the easier programs since I am not a regular user of doing backups. That is why I have 1 Click, Nero and Clone DVD. I just thought that I would add that comment.
Ok Monster House is a toughy for Nero just using AnyDVD. Nero 6 won't hang with it. It has Sony's ARccOS on it along w/ the other usual junk they put on it. You would probably need to use the ripper in AnyDVD to rip to your hard drive 1st then use Nero. Recode is you want in Nero to have it fit to single layer disc. Nero 7 will do it w/ AnyDVD but that's no reason to buy 7 since you have Clone and Shrink which will do the job. I'm not sure what protection Pet Sematary has on it though the one you have is a recent release so it may have Sony's or Macrovision's newer protection on it. You can update you oem version to a newer version of 6 for free. You will get access to what you have now just updated. Just don't go past 6.6.0.18 if you want the autoburn w/ Shrink. I can post links if you like. Shrink doesn't have a burn engine so if you have Nero installed it will use it's burn engine - burning rom. So if you are able to pick you burner under 'select backup target' it's using Nero's. Hope this helps!
Thx again for the reply, I don't know if it's better to upgrade my OEM or not, and BTW where to I double check the version that is how much of an inconsistent user of the programs that I am. Embarrassing. We don't buy that many DVD's, just quality ones that we or the children enjoy and so I don't do many backups. Once I confirm that my version is indeed what is on the CD OEM that I looked at, what do you suggest as being the most stable version that I use. I do plan on purchasing Nero 6 Ultra for my new notebook, is there a update for that one that is the most stable and I imagine that i can only use it on that one computer. The 6 Ultra version is the only one available here in Brtish Columbia and so I thought that I would purchase it for the new machine, but I don't know what version that will be and whether I should update it after I install it. If I do update it, where do I go for that Ultra Version and what is the most stable version of that one to use? To find your version # for Nero when you open SmartStart look to the bottom right. You'll see an icon w/ a flame in it. Click that on - it will list you're version # and have a tab for your serial #. The best one to use would be 6.6.0.18 -still autoburns w/ Shrink. I don't know how much longer Nero will keep them up. The Ultra version is just the name they use for the county you are in - some countries it's Premium. If you can still get 6 in store - great - otherwise you might be left w/ 7. I don't think Nero still sells 6 on their site. Nero 7 with the last updates is much better than it was but for your needs stick w/ 6 & save yourself some $$. Even if you by Nero 6 and it's an earlier version you can still use the links to update it. Last I know Nero allows you to install the software on up to 5 pc's w/ the same serial # - so you're good there. Oh and you're welcome!!
Thx again, the version installed on my notebook is 6.6.0.6 Nero OEM and it indicates the latest available as 6.6.1.4 and the Nero Vision Express, the installed version as 3.0.1.18 and the latest available as 3.1.25 and there are 2 serial numbers listed for Nero Express 6 when I clicked on that tab. Don't really understand any of this. There was an option to click on for the latest version and that is where this 6.6.1.4 showed as being available. I did not d/l it; I left it as the original OEM. Should I D/L from the Links that you suggested and simply do it over top or do I have to uninstall which I hope that I don't as I don't want to start from scratch again if there is an error. I would use the links above and those versions. You can install on top of your current version. 2 problems or bugs in 6.6.1.4 that I know of- will no longer autoburn w/ Shrink. If you try you'll receive a TRF error when it gets to the burn stage. Workaround is just opening Nero and burning from there - just making it a 2 step process. 2nd is on some pc setups was using a lot of memory - more than it normally should. No fixes from version 6.6.0.18 to 6.6.1.4 or added functionality that I know of - may be but I think 6.6.0.18 will be fine for you. Hope the party goes well!! Thx for the Links and I did the installs and they seem to have d/l alright. I will try to burn a backup tomorrow and see if everything is ok. I just wanted to know if I did this setting alright for my needs.... for Package 1, I left "Launch the appropriate Nero App when a disc is inserted." If I want to use another program, this won't mean that Nero will not allow me to do so, right? And in package 2 I deselected all..e.g. for Nero to be default for Mpeg 2, dvd VOB etc as I wanted to be able to use other programs and have them be used in these capacities and not strictly Nero. I hope that I didn't make an error here. And lastly I deselected Nero Photo Snap as my default as I use my Canon program to do my photos, so was deselection OK? I would appreciate your comments on what I did. Will any of this be problematic when I need to use Shrink, which I don't do that often as it simply takes too long. I do use 1 Click Dvd Copy occasionally and thus I guessed that I would not want Nero as my default for DVD. I hope that I did this right. And again I would appreciate your comments as I felt a little in the dark when having to make my choice, but I tried to think of what other programs I use and did not want Nero taking over. I did make a mistake somewhere as I no longer have Nero Smart Start in the task bar, am I able to do that now that i have done the above?Hmmm...not sure if I messed up something by not haveing Nero Smart Start Icon in the Task bar as it was before as my "Advanced System Optimizer" is taking a long time to load and this occurred before when I didn't have the Smart Start Icon in the Task Bar??? I notice that the Nero Express is the Program now, is that correct and that the orange flame no longer gives the serial number as my other version and Nero Express opened once and now won't open so I must have done something wrong. All that appears now is my name, unlike the other version where you told me to click on the orange flame, since the window only opened once I think I found this info in "about" of a ?, I can't remember which as I can't get the program to open again. I tried to d/l the Nero 6 Clean Tool zip file and was going to rid of the program and start from scratch but it would not d/l???? Thankyou again, best regards
Hmmm I usually de-select Nero as the option for file associations. never caused a problem yet so I think you are fine there. At the end of the install what what I remember you should get a choice of having a shortcut to smartstart and for it to be in the taskbar from what I remember. I think too that you may have to click on the options - they may not already be checked by default. You could try a repair install but I think the easiest may be to just uninstall run the clean tool and reinstall to your liking. Here's a link for the clean tool: http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/Nero_6_CleanTool.html Might also be a good idea to run a registry cleaner too after you uninstall, run the clean tool then reboot. If you like you can try this one ccleaner You woud use the cleaner and issues options. Now it does clean up your registry which if done wrong can be a bad thing. I do use this one myself but only do what you are comfortable with.

I tried your Link, and I've tried the Nero regular Link and the French Link and can't get any to d/l they all keep saying not available?? I don't normally have d/l problems, any ideas, as i am definitely not knowlegeable about something like this?? Thx for the suggestion, I really can't understand what is happening here. All my other d/s'are fine. I tried your suggestion and copy and pasted and the little green blocks proceeded slowly across the page and I waited while the timer was up and then again the message that the page is not available and the message I noticed in my bottom task bar read: "Cannot find server" which it has said in all of my other attempts. Is there anyway that access to this particular site can be somehow disabled??? That is when I was working could the software tech have done something to prevent the tool from being accessed accidentally? This really baffles me and I really want to clean up Nero 6 and get your Links d/l so that the program is updated. Well I really don't know what to make of this. My computer is clean and all my other d/l's work. From another forum I received an uploaded Nero 6 Clean Tool and unzipped it to my Desktop the zip file was 698 kb and after unzipping was 859 kb. This was just the Clean tool for the Registry. The member at that forum knew how to upload the Link for me which I don't understand, but it worked and the file is there but when I selected "select all" and ran the cleaner nothing got cleaned out???? I did a Reboot to see if that would help and it didn't and I then did a "Search " and the files are still there??? I know that Nero is odd, or gets embedded...but really I can't understand this at all??? I hope that you may have some ideas. Thankyou again.
You got me on the download thing. Only thing I can think of is maybe the site in blocked in your browser settings or firewall? Using the clean tool - point it to the ahead folder. Usually your hard is 'C' so point the clean tool to C>program files>ahead. If Nero is uninstalled and it still isn't clearing the rest off - then manual delete what folders you find and run a registry clean to clean the rest out. Give that a go.
It seems strange, I first read this thread about 5 min ago. I went to my 1 Click program and opened it, to see the version, and up pops a window stating: New updates are available for downloading.I downloaded the new version,2.3.1.4..When I installed the 1 Click program,they said I would need a program called, DVD43.Which I got.I have not had any problems copying for my own use.
Hi GGlynnD Not a big fan myself of DVD43. Can conflict w/ some rippers like Decrypter or DVDFab. If at some point it doesn't do the trick for you may want to check out AnyDVD. Like DVD43 but updated often to handle everything out there. Not free but has a 21 day free trial.
