Hi all, Having trouble backing up a game... I've backed up a few of my games before without a problem but now I can't back up any of them. Has my burner packed up? I created an ISO using DVD decryptor then tried to write the image to a DVD+R with DVD Decryptor and it said that it was completed successfully but when you click OK, I get an error saying 'unable to recover TOC' and the DVD doesn't work. I tried using Nero to burn the same image and it also stops at 100% saying 'could not perform end of Disc-at-once' and 'Unable to recover TOC'. I've tried two types of media, Sony and TDK. I've backed up games before using the Sony DVDs. They are all DVD+R. I burned to a 'EPUBLIC' DVD+RW and it completed without errors! RW DVDS dont work in my console though. I burned some audio CDs and they worked fine. I've tried burning at slower speeds but get the same problem. Any idea why I can burn this image to DVD-RWs and not DVD+Rs? Will really appreciate any help. I have scoured the internet and have found some people with the same problem on other forums but no one really has an answer except 'try different media'. Here's the log from Nero. Hello Stoo_Pot. Downgrade to version 7.0.8.2 of Nero 7 at this site: http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?845 You should run the Nero 7 General Clean Tool before installing version 7.0.8.2. http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/eng/General_CleanTool.html The version you have installed is not stable. Disc Manufacturer ID: CMC MAG, Media Type ID: M01 CMC Mag media is about the worst media there is. You have a laptop burner and they are even more sensitive to media imo. Try good quality media like Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, and Made in Japan labeled Fuji and Sony disks. Stick to a 4X burn speed. That's a good speed for burning.
Thanks laddyboy, I'll give that a try. I just sacrificed a DVD for information... I tried burning a couple of data folders and exactly the same problem happened so the problem isn't with the image file... it must be either media, my writer or software. I hope it's nero but I'm not too optimistic because of the similar errors with DVD decryptor.
Had some trouble reinstalling the nero demo because of a serial number problems so tried alcohol 120% and same problem. Hoping it's the media. Will buy some better DVDs tomorrow and report back. (Guy in shop said TDK were good, grrrr. Oh well, I know what I'm looking for now.)
Picked up 50 verb DLP DVD+R 8x and burning happily now So, as a usual story for most of you, the problem was caused by bad media (although it wasn't that much cheaper per DVD). Thanks for help. One game I backed up works fine, but another is really jittery, the sound is bad and it crashes. Tried burning at slowest speed but same prob. Can a bad ISO cause that? Will copying from a scratched disk cause the copy to be virtually scratched?
Usually if the disk can be read/ripped, then the copy should be OK. If the playback is jittery and the sound is bad, something else is wrong. Did you try Alcohol 120% for the second game disk? Does the original game disk play OK in your game player?
3 backups ok now, just that one jumpy one. Will try making the image again, making sure there's nothing running in the background.
